Fire � 25 Perish In 7 Months

Twenty-five people lost their lives in 2,859 fire outbreaks recorded in the first seven months of this year. Properties worth GH₵9,773,614.10 were destroyed by fire within the same period. Data from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicates that domestic fires constitute the highest with a total score of 1,173, followed by vehicular fires with a total score of 384. Commercial fires came in third with a score of 353 outbreaks, followed by electrical fire, which scored 349. Bush, institutional and industrial factors, as well as others caused 192, 71, 66, and 271 fire outbreaks respectively. The Ashanti Region had the highest cost of damage totalling GH₵6,852,579 from 507 fire outbreaks with five deaths. In the Eastern Region, GH₵1,287,606.60 was recorded as the cost of damage from 229 fire outbreaks with a single death. The Brong Ahafo Region scored GH₵883,713 as the total cost of damage from 306 fire outbreaks with two deaths. With no death, the Western Region lost properties totalling GH₵315,200.50 from 177 fires. The Volta Region also lost property to the tune of GH₵290,780 from 88 fire outbreaks with no death. The Northern Region, Tema Region and Upper East Region lost properties to the tune of GH₵43,243, GH₵43,300 and GH₵57,192 respectively from 157, 173 and 130 fire outbreaks with no deaths. However, properties salvaged amounted to GH₵14,827 nationwide.
