The suspects were picked up at Rangoon School, American Embassy, La Wireless, La cemetery and Government Secretariat School in Accra respectively. The Cantonments Police Commander, Chief Supt. Iddi Seidu, who spoke to the DAILY HERITAGE, explained that the aim of the operation was to help stem the current cholera outbreak in the country that has claimed hundreds of lives. According to him, the operation started at 4:30 a.m. at popular spots where people often defecate, whereupon, they arrested 26 people in the act. He said that out of the people arrested, two were women. He added that other defaulters were also apprehended while defecating in storm drains. Mr. Seidu expressed disgust at the way and manner some persons at La Wireless openly eased themselves at a time when cholera was claiming the lives of innocent citizens. Its unfortunate that despite the deaths recorded in the recent epidemic, people defecate at the beaches and unapproved venues, he added. The police boss noted that the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.
