Nana Confers With NPP Steering Committee

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the newly elected presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has been officially introduced to the National Steering Committee of the party at its headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra. The ceremony, which was chaired by the National Chairman, Mr Paul Afoko, marked another milestone in the partys preparation towards the 2016 election, with more than a years search for a standard bearer, which saw the party starting the search from the polling station to constituency, regional and national level election . The search came to an end via last Saturdays presidential primary when the party settled on Nana Akufo-Addo, the two-time flag bearer of the party in the 2008 and 2012 elections. As tradition demands, the new presidential candidate had to be officially introduced to the National Steering Committee, whose duty is to package him for the Ghanaian electorate as a hot cake that is irresistible to see and pass by without tasting it. The ceremony yesterday was of significance to the newly elected flag bearer as it was to the recently elected National Executive . In attendance were all elected officers of the party as well as the Chairman of the National Council of Elders, Mr. C.K Tedam. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the presidential candidate, was formally welcomed by the National Chairman, Mr Paul Afoko. On behalf of the party, Mr Afoko congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo on his resounding victory last Saturday, and said the victory was in recognition of his long-standing dedicated service to the party and frontline role in the struggle for political and economic emancipation of Ghana. The party also congratulated Mr Alan Kyerematen and Mr Francis Addai Nimoh on enriching the contest and graciously accepting the outcome with firm assurances to support Nana Akufo-Addo wholeheartedly. They acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions they had made to the party and wished them well. The Steering Committee commended the efforts of party officers at all levels of the party structure as well as members of the Elections Committee who worked hard to ensure a successful exercise. They called on all members to remain selfless in the service of the party so that they could build a strong party machinery capable of recapturing power. The party expressed its gratitude to both the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service for supervising the elections in accordance with the Public Elections Act. They also thanked the media for the wide and extensive coverage of the entire exercise. The leadership of the party remains grateful to the delegates, members and sympathisers of the NPP for adhering to the operating guidelines issued for the conduct of the primary. The party called on all patriots to now forge ahead in genuine unity, rally round the party and the presidential candidate as it embarked on the journey to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress administration.
