On Monday, 27th October, 2014, the Police and Fire Service pledged their allegiance to participate in a regular nationwide clean up exercise aimed at ridding the country of filth. They made this known to the minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Julius Debrah, when he visited their headquarters to formally notify their leadership of the National Sanitation Day and bring them on board. The minister followed this up by visiting the Chief Justice of Ghana, Lady Justice Mrs.Georgina Theodora Wood, to press the judiciary to administer bye-laws on sanitation and related offenses. During his visit, Mr. Debrah stated that there is an urgent need to sensitize people about keeping their surrounding clean before the situation gets out of hand. His concern was that if there is no bye-law to punish offenders, the despicable act would continue.
