Government To Stay Court Action Against Striking Workers

Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Deputy Minister of Communications, on Thursday said government is willing to stay its court action against striking workers if they would call off their strike. Addressing a news conference in Accra over the outcome of a meeting between government and leaders of labour unions, Mr Kwakye described it as fruitful. He said per the agreement at the meeting, government and labour unions would meet again on Tuesday November 4, to discuss the various proposals to be presented by each side for an amicable solution. He said government is willing to negotiate with the labour unions for them to rescind their decision and go back to work as their action is having a negative effect on the people. Mr Kwakye, however, maintained that, the action taken by government to go to court was in the right direction as it was just seeking constitutional declaration on the matter. Twelve labour unions on Wednesday October 22, 2014 embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike over issues relating to their pension scheme.
