President John Dramani Mahama said on Friday that government has instituted Ghana�s National Sanitation Day to help tackle the cholera outbreak nationwide. He stressed that in addition to the various public education campaigns aimed at changing behaviours and attitudes towards proper sanitation and cleanliness, government has decided to declare the first Saturday of every month a National Sanitation Day. In a statement in Accra President Mahama said: �The 1st of November 2014 is therefore a significant milestone as it is the first Saturday of November and marks the inception of this day, starting from this Saturday.� It is for this reason that the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, took to the streets on Saturday November 1st to ensure the city is tidied up. He personally took part in the exercise and was seen collecting debris and giving directive to citizens who joined the campaign to keep Accra clean. The nature of the exercise demanded the AMA Boss to move around the city and inspect the ongoing cleaning up exercise. However, things nearly turned nasty when a passenger bus driver (trotro driver) nearly run his car into Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije. Close to the M�venpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije did his best to control the traffic situation in the area and for some strange reasons, the driver of the bus was heard honking his horn continuously. In an attempt to escape the traffic jam, he came close to knocking down the AMA boss.
