Media Blamed For Corruption And Economic Failures

The immediate past President of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, Apostle John Annan Adotey, has blamed the media for mass corruption, economic and social failures of the country. He said the media did well to put in the public domain some social ills but often failed to inform the people about how those issues were resolved in terms of any punishment suffered by the culprits to serve as deterrent to others. Apostle Adotey said people elected into political offices and others seeking power made pronouncements and got away with them without the media holding them for the statements and promises they made. Therefore, he said, people seeking political office and those in power thought they could tell the electorate anything and get away with it. He appealed to the media to go a step further and hold the representatives of the people accountable for their actions and pronouncements. Apostle Adotey was preaching at a thanksgiving service for Rev Samuel Adjei, President of the Christians Friends of Democracy at Aburi for being honoured at the 20th Anniversary celebration of Lansing Regional Sister Cities Commission at Lansing in the Michigan State in the USA for his contribution to humanity early this year. At the 14th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on August 16 the Presbyterian Church also honoured Rev Adjei for his contribution towards the refurbishment and acquisition of an ambulance for the Kom Clinic at Aburi. Apostle Adotey said many Christians after cleaning their homes put the waste into polythene bags and dump them anywhere in their communities to create insanitary conditions and on Sundays dress nicely to church. He said many of the people involved in criminal cases had names which suggested that they are Christians and called on all Christians to demonstrate worthy lifestyles in their homes, their communities and work places. Mr Sameul Nuamah Donkor, a former Minister of Health, described Rev Adjei as among the few people who lived their lives for the benefit of others. He said Rev Adjei had initiated moves for students from the University of Ghana to benefit from a scholarship scheme to study in the United States under a relationship between the University of Ghana and the Michigan State University. Mr Donkor said Rev Adjei was also working to create a Sister City relationship between the State of Detroit in the USA and the New Juaben Municipal Assembly which could support the development of New Juaben.
