AUDIO: Fire Festival Leaves Police, Others Injured In Tamale

About 15 people between the ages of 30 to 42 sustained various degree of injuries following the celebration of the Fire Festival in Tamale on Monday night. The fire festival locally known in Dagbani as BUGUM festival is one of the main festivals celebrated by the people of the Northern Region. It is believed that the origin can be traced to Noah and the Ark. It is believed that during the great flood as recorded in the Quran and the Bible, Noah's Ark settled somewhere. When they got out it was dark. They therefore lit cotton wool to give light. After the dispersion , the people of Tamale celebrate the fire festival to recall that event. However, on Monday night during the celebrations, things took a different turn after some people fired their muskets; injuring about 15 people including a police officer in the process.
