About 15 students of Accra High School on their way home from school Tuesday narrowly escaped what could have been an unpleasant story as an out of control taxi cab narrowly jetted past them.
The taxi, a Madza with registration number GC 5537 12 which was involved in a multiple car accident on the Nima Highway � Ridge Roundabout road, scaled the reserve and span dangerously onto the opposite road, missing the students by a few metres.
Luckily there were no vehicles immediately approaching from the opposite lanes.
On the rainy late afternoon, the students were standing in the reserve waiting to cross the road at a zebra crossing when the sudden chain of crashes involving six vehicles scarily sent them rushing away from the danger.
It all happened when a Peugeot 406 with registration number GT 7390 T made a sudden stop for the students to cross the road, forcing four vehicles immediately following her to also apply their breaks forcefully.
Unfortunately, a speeding Ford pick-up with registration number GT 7039 V ran into the taxi which was just ahead of it, ejecting it rather dangerously over the reserve before hitting another vehicle. In a domino effect, three other cars including an Opel Astra with registration AS3475 09 hit each other, the Peugeot inclusive.
Strangely enough, two of the vehicles involved in the pile up simply drove off from the accident scene.
No one sustained any injuries except a man who sat in the front passenger seat of the taxi who complained of pains at the back of the neck and in the ensuing confusion, the drivers engaged each other arguing out what they thought might have resulted in the accident as they awaited the arrival of the police.
