E.T. Mensah Commends Ningo-Prampram Police Commander

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, has commended his area's District Police Commander for protecting a plot of land which now hosts a police station at New Dawhenya. The parcel of land, which they feared was being taken by some recalcitrant youth of the area who illegally claim people's lands and then do multiple sales to innocent buyers, was protected by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paul Bampo. "The land has seen the reason for its purpose because we had a committed District Police Commander who protected this land, night and day, like a land guard whose whole life depended on the land. Our Commander deserves every commendation," he said. Speaking at the commissioning and handing-over ceremony of a police station built by the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly (NiPA), Mr E.T. Mensah explained that DSP Bampo exhibited discipline and commitment to the course of his profession "and so to avoid receiving varying reports and complaints from either his boys or some recalcitrant and illegal land owners, he himself was always here protecting the land earmarked for the police station." The MP explained that in Ghana, people often mistake disciplinary action for human right abuse. Consequently, DSP Bampo avoided being seen as violating the human right of some indiscipline illegal landowners, hence his decision to single-handedly protect the land. In spite of their numerous challenges in their regular attempts to curb crime in the district, Mr E.T. Mensah was full of praise to the police for doing their best to make Ningo-Prampram peaceful. In order to enable them keep better records in the district, the MP donated a computer and its accessories to the officers who would be stationed at the new Dawhenya Police Station. He called on corporate bodies, residents' associations and individuals to help the police with equipment and vital logistics to facilitate their operations. The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ningo-Prampram, Alhaji Sar-Rak Nartey, for his part, said DSP Paul Bampo is a commander his office would continue to laud for his hard work, discipline and commitment to providing good security in Ningo-Prampram. He said, "Though we cannot bring crime to zero, DSP Bampo is doing his best to reduce the high rate of crime in the 172 towns and villages in the district." The police, the DCE said, cannot be everywhere at all times, hence the need for residents to prioritise and take their personal security more seriously. Alhaji Nartey believed that the New Dawhenya Police Station would get the police closer to the fast-growing communities and increasing university student population of Dawhenya and its surrounding areas. In order to get the police closer to the residents, two residents' associations -Dawhenya Residents Association and Power City Residents Association - have provided four- and two-bedroom accommodation to the police personnel who would be posted to the area's police station. The residents believe that the presence of the police in their communities would keep criminals at bay, thus saving their properties and lives.
