Opposition Political Parties Cry Over NDC Snub

Opposition Political parties in the Northern Region have taken on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to extend invitation to them during last weeks Peoples Forum held in Tamale. In a release signed and copied to the media by officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and the Peoples National Convention (PNC), it noted that the conduct of the organisers smack of disrespect. According to them, all political parties during the erstwhile Kufuor administration were never snubbed in events like the Peoples Assembly which paved the way for the citizenry to hold stakeholders accountable for their stewardship. Such events, according to the political parties, were national in nature and paved the way for divergent views and constructive criticisms of issues that were of national importance. It however noted with regret how the organisers of the NDC concept of the Peoples Assembly were reduced to a propaganda workshop for party functionaries to sing praises of government appointees. It observed that other political parties were sidelined because they had ample information on teething issues affecting the development of the country including the collapse of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the worsening unemployment situation and the massive corruption currently eating up the moral fibre of the country. But, officials at the helm of affairs had a field day in deceiving the populace of various achievements they had chalked under their watch when in effect there is nothing like it, the release added. The release doubted claims by government officials of work on the Banvum road, the construction of the Gnani and Kumbungu roads and the state of the yet-to-be established sugar factory as well as the Shea Butter Factory in Savelugu and Buipe respectively. The parties conclusively described the said Peoples Forum as a praise singing propaganda workshop and a ploy by the ruling party to throw dust in the eyes of the citizenry under the guise that it is opened to scrutiny in its administration. They advised the NDC government to stop wasting state resources in pursuing political parties activities in the name of accountability, noting that it would be indeed worth its sort if representatives of other political parties are included in such fora.
