Land Terrorist Hot

A FAMILY HEAD at Ningo in the Greater Accra region who decided to settle a land dispute with stockpiles of faeces is in trouble. Nene Omensu of the Kabueku family will today appear before the sanitation court at Prampram for discharging liquid human waste into foundation of a construction site of a private developer. The suspect is said to be notorious in terrorizing private developers who intend to develop parcels of land the Kabueku and Lowe families have been disputing over. As at the time of filing this report, the mess he had created had not been cleared exuding foul stench in the suburb. This comes at a time the President, John Mahama, has been campaigning for the need for Ghanaians to adhere to cleanliness. Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview, the victim, Kofi Nartey, explained that there is long standing land dispute between the Nene Omensu of the Kabueku family and Lowe clan which, he was not privy to prior to purchasing the land. When we acquired the land from Lowe family in 2008, the intention was to beautify the place because residents have been indiscriminately dumping refuse on the site, but, the attempts have been met with stiff resistance, he added. He recounted that last two years, when they were about to clear the land with a bulldozer, Nene Omensu and some family members stopped them. Though the case has been reported to Nene Atiapa, the Acting President of the Ningo Traditional Council, the family does not want us to have peace. The latest assault was on 10th of November, 2014 when we intended to construct trenches for the foundation of a fence wall to dissuade people from using the site as a dumping ground, but, before blocks would be plotted, piles of faeces were used to fill it despite its health implications. Mr. Nartey said the Tradition Council will meet on the matter today. But, Nene Omensu will appear at the sanitation court today following a report by the victim to the environmental health department of the Prampram district. When the paper contacted the environment health officer who gave his name as Isaiah, he confirmed the incident but tersely added that the suspect has been charged with discharging effluence into drain. The aggrieved private developer is however calling on the courts to deal with the issue dispassionately to serve as a deterrent to others.
