GJA Disappointed At Graphic Over Kenus Dismissal

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has expressed disappointment over the dismissal of the Ashanti Regional editor of the Daily Graphic newspaper, Daniel Kenu. The General Secretary of the GJA, David Agbenu described Daniel Kenus dismissal as unfair, unjustifiable. Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr Agbenu said this was an unfortunate decision, adding that it is hard to believe that this has happened because it was least expected that this case would end this way; we had supported him to get justice but not the reverse. The formal Ashanti Regional Editor dragged Baffour Gyan to court for allegedly leading a group of men to assault him. He subsequently surprised his employers by withdrawing the case from court without prior notice. The management of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) who dismissed Daniel Kenu on Wednesday accused him of being disloyal to the company by withdrawing the case unilaterally from court despite. But the GJAs General Secretary argued that even though the GJA was not happy with Mr Kenus decision to withdraw the case, Graphics action is harsh. We all were not happy about the step taken by Kenu to withdraw the case from the court, and we had our peace, we spoke our mind and told him it was wrong, but he apologized to everybody so why are we hanging on that and what are we looking for? he asked. The Graphic Communications Group set up a committee to look into Daniel Kenus actions and prescribed the dismissal. But some staff members of the company are planning a solidarity strike for their colleague. They claim that the committee did not prescribe dismissal for Kenu but rather, a suspension and a public apology.
