The Herald, preliminary investigations into the arrest of a Ghanaian woman, Ms. Nayele Ametefe on November 10, 2014, at the Heathrow International Airport in faraway London, by the British Drugs Enforcement officers, for possessing 12 kilograms of cocaine, have started yielding some interesting but shocking results. First is that the busted drug lady, has several names, including Nayele Ametefe, but her real name according to her childhood friends is Ruby Appiah. She is also known to some people as Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, but commonly referred to as �Angel� as a nickname. Secondly, she is not from the Volta Region as the name Ms. Ametefe suggest, but an Akan-speaking beautiful goddess who is well-known within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Her remotest connection to the First Family, has only been suggested by the ex-NPP Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Michael Omari Wadie, who was last year arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for superimposing President John Dramani Mahama�s head on the body of a supposed man having sex with a lady in an office. Ex-NPP Constituency Chairman, who spoke on Breeze FM�s Sinopi Current Affair talk show, hosted by Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah, on Monday claims he also knows the said Ruby Appiah by the name Ruby Mahama, suggesting she has ties with the popular Mahama family. Michael Omari Wadie, revealed that Ruby, recently landed a lady in a drug-related trouble. The said lady is presently in police custody, here in Ghana. He also claimed Ruby is a daughter of the one of the three Dzorwulu NPP women, who were arrested for drug trafficking in 2006, the era of John Kufuor administration, but surprisingly were set free without trial. Michael Omari Wadie, on the radio programme said NACOB, has also known the activities of Ruby and was aware she had gone to do a plastic surgery to enable her disguise herself. He claimed he has pictures and video to prove Ruby�s connections to elements within government, plans were being hatched to send hit squad after the two others ladies whom he claimed were hiding in London, to assassinate them and conceal the truth. The ex-Constituency Chairman told Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah that Ruby uses about six names. He insisted he knew the busted lady and her illegal operations, as well as her connection to some powerful individuals in the Ghanaian society According to him, all the drugs being carried by the three ladies belong to Ruby. Contrary to claims that the two accomplices of Ruby had fled to Ghana, Michael Omari Wadie, claimed that the two other ladies are currently stuck in London and in hiding following attempts to have them killed. He said unless someone assassinated him, he has lot of information on Ruby and will release it at the appropriate time to the surprise of many. Thirdly, Ruby Appiah alias Ruby Adu-Gyamfi alias Nayele Ametefe appears to have been in the illegal drug business for many years now, with close associates telling The Herald she once had problem in Amsterdam in the Netherlands bearing the name Ruby Appiah. Her father is said to be resident in Amsterdam. She subsequently changed her name to the various aliases she goes around with while carrying out her nefarious trade. Fourthly, Ruby Appiah operates an electrical shop at Dzorwulu in Accra called Night Angels, where she sells electric bulbs and chandeliers; a decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture. The bulb shop appears to be a cover job for what she truly does for a living. Night Angels is adjacent Relax Court Hotel and top of the UBA Bank, off the Achimota-Tetteh Quashie side of the N1 Highway. Friends and family revealed to The Herald that Ruby Appiah did not travel alone to the UK carrying the US$5 million, but was onboard, a British Airways flying First Class while two other ladies who are currently at large were onboard the same flight but were on economy class. According to insiders, they hurriedly returned to Ghana the same day after the arrest of Nayele Ametefe, and have since gone into hiding. The ladies, The Herald gathered abandoned their luggage at the Heathrow International Airport, run to town and quickly came back boarding different flights to Ghana. The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has confirmed her arrest in the UK with cocaine weighing 12.kg after having travelled on an Austrian passport. The board said she did not travel with a Ghanaian diplomatic passport as reported by some media houses. In a statement by Richard Nii Lante Blankson, Deputy Executive Secretary (E&C) to the media, NACOB stated: �One Ms. Nayele Ametefe was arrested on the 10th of November, 2014 through the collaborative effort of Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) and its British partners. �On the 9th November, 2014, one Ms. Nayele Ametefeh boarded British Airways flight number BA 078 from Accra to London. She was arrested at Heathrow International Airport. She had flown on a first class ticket using travel miles on British Airways point. The ticket had been purchased on 8th October, 2014 and had been altered three times.� It added: �In her possession she had two (2) suitcases. Only one (1) of the suitcases was checked in (Baggage tag number BA 059801) and nothing of interest was found. In the other suitcase which was believed to be hand carried onto the plane, 10kgs of cocaine was found among her clothing. The cocaine was wrapped in one kilo blocks. In her hand bag, she had further two (2) kilos (blocks). �It is worthy to note that Ms. Nayele Ametefe travelled on Austrian passport number P4187659 and not on Ghanaian Diplomatic passport as being speculated. She also had in her possession an ordinary Ghanaian passport number G0364497 issued on 3rd August, 2012, adding �Investigations are still ongoing.� Meanwhile claims that the busted lady has diplomatic Ghanaian passport and that it was that same passport she travelled with has turned out to be untrue. Claims that she is a financier of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who bought a distributed I10 Hyundai saloon cars during the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary and has also came out to be untrue. The lady, who picture was used; Francisca Mawupemor Adjei as the lady in question has publicly denied having the money to procure the vehicles. She also denied her arrest saying she has never travelled to the UK in her life. Additionally, the so-called internet media platform; West African Online which the publication was attributed to, appears not to exist as attempt to locate them has proved futile. The reporter of the story, Fumi Adewale is also yet to be located. The government through the Minister of Communication, Edward Omane Boamah has also debunked any link of the busted lady to the First Family. More to come!
