Woyomes Trial: Court To Announce Judgement Date December 12

The Financial Division of the Fast Track High Court is expected on December 12, 2014, to announce a date for judgement in the trial of Alfred Agbesi Woyome, the businessman who is accused of making fraudulent claims and defrauding the state of GH51.2 million. The court, presided over by Mr Justice John Ajet-Nasam, came to that decision yesterday, after the lead counsel of Woyome, Mr Sarfo Buabeng, had told the court that he would not re-cross examine anyone. Defence counsel and state prosecutors handling the case will on December 12, 2014 apply for court proceedings. State prosecutors, led by the Chief State Attorney, Mrs Yvonne Attakorah-Obuobisa, rounded off the cross-examination of Woyome on November 13, 2014. In all, the state called nine witnesses, including Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, a Minister of Youth and Sports in the Kufuor Administration. Woyome, however, did not call any witness. Charges Woyome has pleaded not guilty to two counts of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretence and is on a GH20 million bail. State prosecutors say Woyome, in February, 2010, made false representation that the government owed him two per cent of 1,106,470,587 for financial engineering services he rendered during the rehabilitation of the Kumasi, Accra and El-Wak stadia, ahead of the CAN 2008 African Cup of Nations.
