Blackout In Parliament (PHOTO)

Parliament House was not spared the irksome and unannounced power outage in Ghana Thursday, as members got set to debate the 2015 budget statement of government. The Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper, was in the House Wednesday to deliver the budget and economic statement which lasted for about three hours. Parliamentary officials said the Finance Ministers presentation was powered by the generating plant of the lawmaking body and was used for other activities of the day. When the Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho entered the lawmaking chamber Thursday, he was greeted by a power outage forcing him to descend heavily on the power distribution company, Electricity Company of Ghana. The speaker had to suspend proceedings for about 30 minutes. He has therefore called for an investigation into the frequent power outages in Parliament and the probing body made up of some MPs has until next Tuesday to present their report to the House. A very livid Adjaho described the frequent blackouts as unacceptable.
