Over 700 Guns, Ammunition Retrieved After Police Raid On Bimbilla

Security forces have retrieved arms and ammunition from residents of Bimbilla in the Namuba North District of the Northern Region after swoop on the area. A joint Police and Military force have been keeping peace in Bimbilla following murder of the late overlord of the Nanumbas, Na Andani Dasana Dawuni. The Northern Region town has been under curfew since the death of the overlord, several months ago. The Northern Regional Security Council had banned the carrying of any type of ammunition or arms in Bimbilla. The swoop was part of a periodic, random security swoops of the Nanumba North District township. The search on Saturday led to the retrieval of 732 AK-47 ammunition, 43 G3 ammunition, one short machine gun, one double barrel gun and 6 AA cartridges among others. Five people suspected to be linked to the discovery of the arms and ammunition were also arrested. Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Joy News the five persons arrested have been sent to Tamale for further interrogations. �In all we have five suspects who are presently in our custody. Two of them are in Tamale and the other three are assisting the police with investigations in Yendi", he said. He added that the five suspects arrested in the swoop are likely to be charged with possessing arms and ammunition without charged with an offence of unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
