Landlord, Daughter Lock Out Tenant

A 59-year-old man and his 23-year-old daughter have appeared before the Amasaman Circuit Court for offensive conduct. They were also charged with breach of peace, inducing a tenant to quit and assault. Dennis Osei-Tutu and Adelaide Osei Tutu, a nurse, were said to have assaulted the 62-year-old tenant and forced him to pack out. However, they both pleaded not guilty to all the charges and were granted bail in the sum of GH3,500 with a surety each. Prosecuting, Sgt F.A Ansah said the complainant in the case is Tarick Kalmoni, a businessman He said on June 26, 2014, at about 6:30p.m., Mr Kalmoni returned home and found the metal gate leading to his apartment locked with a padlock, for no apparent reason, denying him access to the house. He, therefore, drew the attention of Osei-Tutu, who claimed responsibility for locking the gate and refused to open it. Sgt Ansah said Mr Kalmoni told Osei-Tutu what he had done was against the law, but the latter became offended and used abusive words against Mr Kalmoni, but eventually opened the metal gate. Thereafter, Kalmonis female friend, a witness in the case who came around, was prevented from entering the house by Osei-Tutu. The Prosecutor said she, therefore, left for her house which was nearby. According to Sgt Ansah, Mr Kalmoni went out again and upon returning home at about 10:30p.m. with his lady friend, the main gate was locked but a co-tenant opened it for them. Sgt Ansah said immediately they entered, Adelaide attacked Mr Kalmoni and tore his shirt. She also pushed him to the floor, subjecting him to beatings. When Osei-Tutu was asked why he allegedly subjected his tenant to that treatment, he told the court that, Mr Kalmoni had been asking the young boys in the house to pull his manhood anytime they visited him in his room. The case was adjourned to December 8, 2014.
