THE TEI-NKWANTA community near Koforidua in the Eastern region was thrown into a state of confusion and shock on Wednesday when the dead body of a forty-year-old woman, Dede Victoria, was abandoned half-naked on the street by the husband and family who hail from Obogu near Konongo in the Ashanti region. The residents in the community after hearing the incident trooped to the scene to have a glimpse of the incident. The body was put half-naked in a coffin and was abandoned on the street due to misunderstanding between the two families over where the body should be buried. Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview, the father of the deceased, Eric Tetteh, explained that months ago the daughter was reported ill and was treated at the hospital, but later fell ill again and died while at a prayer camp. According to him, the husband, one Mr Martey and the family decided to bury the deceased at Obogu, but the family rejected the idea. This created misunderstanding between the man�s family and the deceased�s family which resulted in verbal exchanges on mobile phone. Mr. Tetteh further stated that after the back and forth, an agreement was reached that the husband and family must bring the body to them at Tei-Nkwanta for burial. But, to the surprise of the family, the husband on Wednesday evening at around 5:30pm brought the body and abandoned it on the street and sped off. Several telephone calls to reach the family proved futile. Mr. Tetteh said after performing customary rite by the chiefs and elders of the community on Thursday, the body was buried. Meanwhile, the family of the late Victoria has met to deliberate on their next line of action. The deceased and the husband got married a year ago and gave birth to two children who are unfortunately, also all dead raising questions as to what was happening to the family.
