NPP Calls Off Planned Demo

The Ashanti Regional leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called off a planned demonstration which was scheduled for Wednesday. The demonstration was expected to mobilize thousands of Ghanaians and party supporters from across the region to protest against the Mahama-led governments handling of the economy. But speaking to Citi News, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Sam Payne said the upcoming Christmas festivities have compelled the party to call off the demonstration. Originally we intended to have the demonstration on 10th December 2014 but because of the Christmas festivities and other related matters we have postponed it. He said the party will hold the demonstration after Christmas. The demonstration which was initially scheduled to take place on December 10, 2014 would have been the second time the party would have led a protest in the region in 2014. In June 2014, hundreds of Ghanaians in Kumasi, led by the Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus, marched through the streets of the city in a demonstration, dubbed Ya y3 den? to register the partys displeasure over what they describe as unbearable hardship in the region.
