NDC Youth On Rampage In Evalue [PHOTO]

There was pandemonium at the Evalue constituency office of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region yesterday. This was when some irate youth of the party stormed the place in their numbers to lock up the office in the full glare of some party executives. The irate youth, according to sources, also attempted to destroy some properties belonging to the municipal assembly, but for the timely intervention of the police in the area. The action of the youth group, DAILY GUIDE learnt, was in protest against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, James Ata Kakra Baidoo. The youth alleged that the MCE was involved in corrupt practices and has no regard for other party members in the constituency. They alleged that Mr. Kakra Baidoo had embezzled money to the tune of about GH5,500 meant for the youth of the party. According to the NDC youth, the money was meant for those who helped in the biometric registration of party members and those who supervised the last voters revision exercise. They however, indicated that even though the money was with the MCE, he had allegedly refused to give it to them. The angry youth also indicated that the behaviour of the MCE was making the ruling party unpopular in the constituency and so they decided to invade the party office and destroy properties. DAILY GUIDE gathered that the aggrieved youth, numbering over 200, allegedly included some constituency executives. Some of the protesters who spoke to DAILY GUIDE explained that their action against the MCE was borne out of the fact that James Baidoo had failed to heed to the instruction by some party bigwigs to hand over the money to the beneficiaries. Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Jonas Kabutey, Grantfield Community Centre branch secretary of the party, claimed that the MCE had squandered monies meant for some youth activists of the party. He explained that after the partys biometric registration of its members in the constituency, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Armah Kofi Buah, gave the MCE an amount of GH2,500 to be given to the youth who toiled to ensure the success of the exercise. He indicated that the Western Regional branch of the party also gave an amount of GH3,000 to be given to the youth who also supervised the last voters exhibition exercise. Kabutey told the paper that when the youth got a hint that their money had been given to the MCE, they approached him for it. He said to their surprise, the MCE told them that indeed that money had been given to him but he had used it for other things. According to Kabutey, the statement by the MCE infuriated the youth and so they gave him five days to produce the money or face their wrath. The five-day ultimatum ended on Monday and so we decided to take action which would enable the national executives of the NDC know the sort of person the MCE is, he added. Mansion Jonas Kabutey alleged that barely two years after Mr. Baidoo assumed office, he was putting up a huge mansion at Axim to the amazement of even some constituency executives. We are not saying the MCE should not build, but the timing was wrong because the country is in deep crisis and when people see that the MCE is putting up such a building, it will give room for people to accused him of being corrupt, he asserted. Several attempts by DAILY GIUIDE to speak to Mr. James Baidoo proved fiasco as his cell phone was off.
