The Second Lady Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur on Friday, took her environmental crusade to Health facilities and schools in the Western Region and called on stakeholders the chiefs the need to be clean and live in clean environment to avoid cholera. The wife of the Vice president Mrs. Amissah-Arthur, urged nurses and doctors in the Region to educate mothers on the essence of early maternal care, in order to avoid deaths and complications during birth. This she said would achieve the World heath organisation's target of zero percent in maternal deaths. The Second Lady, made the call when she paid a visit to the Tarkwa government Municipal Hospital in the Western Region. Mrs. Amissah-Arthur commended the management and staff of the hospital for their dedication to provide healthcare to the people and for managing childhood illnesses. According to her, children must be treated with care because they are of topmost priority to their parents. "Children are the future leaders and I am someone who believes in growing with the young generation in the area of health care delivery," she said. She encouraged the doctors, nurses and the other staff to do more to ensure quality healthcare for children. Mrs. Amissah Arthur also took the opportunity to touch of the sanitation and environmental issues that has been a source of most of the cholera out breaks in the country,and advised them on the need to keep our environment clean. The wife of the Vice President, was conducted round the hospital by Mrs Vida Akoto Principal nursing officer at the children's ward of the hospital where she interacted with some of the children on admission at the ward, and wished them Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery. she also presented school bags with learning tools, fruits, and other assorted items, to the Children' and medical staff at the hospital. The donation is in line with her commitment to improve quality health care delivery in the country. Earlier, the Second Lady expressed her passion in helping the needy as well as for providing social services for deprived communities especially children also presented library books and a set of computers each with a UPS system to the some selected schools in the Tarkwa Nsueam municipality. The schools were Dompim Methodist JHS,,Tarwa Methodist JHS and Bogosu Methodist JHS all in the Western Region. Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, a Professional librarian over the years is committed to seeing that children, not only enroll, but also read and complete school and prayed that God will continue to assist in the noble venture and reiterated the need for parent to stop the habit of sending their children to trade before and after school, since it does not urger well and also does not allow the children to improve in their academic performance.
