Pregnant Woman Drowns With Baby

WAILING AND gnashing of teeth have engulfed the people of Nyankamamu near Enchi in the Aowin District of the Western region when a pregnant woman and his three-year-old child on Monday drowned in the Dusue River. The death of the pregnant woman and her child has brought fear and panic on numerous farmers who crossed the river to access farm produce and those who commute along it. The river is one of the many rivers in the district which serve as the source of drinking water and the only big river that flows through the town. According to the deceaseds husband, Steven Kwadwo Ackah, who spoke to DAILY HERITAGE, he went to farm with the wife to harvest their fermented cocoa beans home. Mr. Ackah added that, after gathering the fermented cocoa beans and were getting ready to return home, the deceased told him, she wanted to fetch some fire wood by crossing to the other side of the river. But looking at the way the river was overflowing, I then asked her to wait with the child while I cross the river to the other bank to look for the fire wood, he stated with tears. Mr. Ackah added that, the woman who could not wait for him to fetch the fire wood, decided to do it herself. Then in the process she fell into the river after she had shouted his name for help. When he heard the shout, he quickly turned to help but couldnt see any one so I ran quickly to town for help but by the time we got there, they were carried away by the river until the body was finally discovered days after. In an interview with the paper, the District Police Commander of the Aowin District, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Anim Ofori, confirmed the incident and the death of the pregnant woman.
