Parliament Approves GH� 21,974,000,000 Budgetary Estimates

Parliament has approved twenty-one billion, nine hundred and seventy-four million Ghana cedis (GH�21,974,000,000) budgetary estimates for the running of other Government Obligations for next year. The sum will be used for the payments of Pensions, Gratuities, Social Security and the National Health Fund among others. Presenting the report of the Finance Committee for the endorsement of the allocation, the Chairman of the Committee, James Avedzi said Government has spent 25 million on petroleum subsidies this year and will be spending fifty million Ghana Cedis in 2015 to cover petroleum subsidies. Estimates for the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and the National Commission for Civic Education were also approved. Government is obliged by Law to provide money for the payment of certain statutory Funds. These are the District Assemblies Common Fund, SSNIT, GETFund, Road Fund, Amortisation, transfer to GNPC and payment for lifeline consumers of electricity. To meet these and other obligations a little over Twenty-One Billion, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Four Million Ghana Cedis has been allocated. Presenting the report of the Finance Committee, the Chairman James Avedzi said some outstanding arrears will also be paid. The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ was allocated twenty four million Ghana Cedis for the implementation of its programs and activities. The Commission intend to intensify efforts next year to help reduce the incidence of corruption and increase the integrity of public office holders whiles implementing its National Human Rights Action Plan. The National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE received approval for 29 million Ghana Cedis for its operations for the 2015 fiscal year.
