Over 700 Police Personnel Deployed For NDC Congress

The Ashanti Regional Police has deployed over 700 of its personnel to beef up security at the national delegate�s congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Speaking in an interview with Citi News the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye assured that �we have prepared well for this election. With the corporation of the NDC itself and their security committee I think we will have a peaceful election.� Over 3,500 NDC delegates nationwide are currently in Kumasi to elect suitable persons to occupy national executive positions and to also steer the affairs of the party. DCOP Kofi Boakye noted that �from yesterday we started posting men to the hotels. As you know already, the metropolis is already stable and peaceful but with the influx of a lot of people, some miscreant will try to take advantage of situation. �So we have increased our manpower strength to combat any unforeseen circumstance. At least we have about 450 men from outside the metropolis to augment our strength. So in all we may use about 700 men to police the city and also the stadium.� On Friday, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Citi News the party�s security committee and the police will collaborate to ensure a peaceful and violent free congress. On measures put in place for a successful congress, Asiedu Nketia said delegates and accredited persons will have their accreditation tags scanned before they would be allowed to enter the stadium. �There is a restricted access that will be available to delegates, members of our Council of Elders, to the diplomatic corp. and observers. The accredited persons will walk through scanners, where their accreditation tags which bear codes will be scanned so that it limits the possibility of infiltrators. It is extremely important for these delegates and accredited person to come along with their accredited cards either than that it will not be allowed to enter the stadium,� he added.
