Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies have been urged to create space for active participation of people at the grassroots in the local governance system. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, said they need to deepen their engagement with the communities, to get to know their felt needs and work to tackle these. He hinted of plans by the government to roll out a programme to obtain feedback on performance and work together through interaction with the people to determine the way forward. The Deputy Minister said government was determined to bring governance to the doorstep of every Ghanaian. He said these when he paid a courtesy call on the chief of Adomfe, Nana Adomfe Agyei during a tour of the Asante-Akim South District to inspect development projects including the Juaso-Morso-Kurofa-Adomfe road, classroom structures at Bompata Senior High School (SHS) and a new District Police Headquarters building. Mr. Nii Lantey gave the assurance that his ministry would continue to introduce policies and programme interventions that would help to improve the lives of the population, particularly those in the rural communities. He appealed to the people to support the on-going street naming and property addressing project, and the national sanitation day, to rid the communities of filth. Mr. De-graft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), announced the successful completion of the phase one of the street-naming at Juaso and said he was confident that the exercise would be extended to the other towns. He praised chiefs in the area for the leadership and massive support for efforts at improving environmental sanitation. Nana Adomfe Agyei pleaded with the government to build a Community SHS for them and said an 18-acre stretch of land would be released for the project.
