STATEMENT: We're Sickened By NDCs Naked Opulence & Rawlings Tacit Approval

A UK-based Ghanaian advocacy group, CENAB-UK, has hit hard at the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying its recent Delegates Congress was an embarrassment to the countrys democratic dispensation since its activists crowned it by insulting those who dared to tell them the truth. The group, which claims to be a voluntary advocacy unit with affiliates in USA and Ghana, and supportive of the Nana Addo/Dr Bawumia ticket to lead Ghana, said in a statement issued today it is sickened by the wanton display of wealth in a desert of poverty and despondency showcased at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Saturday, and accused President Mahama of being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians. What sticks out in our minds after the Kumasi Congress, instead of policies and rejuvenation of ideas for 2015 and beyond, was sharing of the booty of corruption, display of wealth, Greenstreets possession of the demon of truth and NDC response with insults, the group said. CENAB-UK also indicted former President Rawlings for his condescending attitude to the abominable display of opulence at the congress grounds. What CENAB-UK finds even most abominable is Rawlings tacit acceptance of this opulence and display of corruption money and even to an extent invite his wife, who has come to understand probity and accountability more than he who killed for these virtues, to re-join his house rot and canker, the statement read. CENAB UK, an advocacy group supporting the ticket of Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia to lead Ghana, is sickened by the wanton display of wealth in a desert of poverty and despondency. CENAB UK feels saddened by Chronicle Newspaper report that tongues were wagging in the Golden City over the ostentatious display of wealth and flashy state-owned vehicles before, during and after the congress organized by the ruling party to elect national Executives to steer affairs of the party for the next four years. The Chronicle report continues The picturesque nature of the convoy of vehicles that paraded the Garden City between the period of the congress appear to be a direct opposite of the self-acclaimed moderate socialist NDC of the early 2000, the period where the party struggled to field candidates for various position The display of brand new 2014 registered land cruisers in the city from Friday to Sunday, blowing sirens and disturbing both public and private peace was not just an affront on the populace but a display of lack of care. CENAB-UK also finds the display of cash which according to their immediate past Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei was to the tune of GHC5000 per delegate, intolerable. What CENAB-UK finds even most abominable is Rawlings tacit acceptance of this opulence and display of corruption money and even to an extent invite his wife, who has come to understand probity and accountability more than he who killed for these virtues, to re-join his house rot and canker.
