A 25 year old unemployed man, from Mankessim in the Central Region, was on Monday remanded into prison custody by a Cape Coast Circuit Court�to reappear in court on January 12, 2015. �Francis Wilson is facing charges of allegedly possessing a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, and attempted murder of a police officer during his arrest. � The accused�s plea was not taken. �� Prosecuting, Inspector Peter Paul Amoah, told the court presided over by Kofi Seshie Ametewee, that the complainant, DSP David Ashong was the Mfantseman Municipal Police Commander, while the accused was resident at Mankessim. ��������������� He said on the 23 day of December this year, DSP� Ashong led a team to conduct a swoop in and around Mankessim, during which the accused was spotted smoking a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, behind the Mankessim Market. ��������������� Inspector Amoah said in an attempt to arrest the accused, he pulled out a jack knife and attempted to stab one Police Constable Collins Nketia,�with a jack knife but the police overpowered and arrested him. ��������������� Inspector Amoah also told the court that a search conducted on him revealed a black polythene bag containing some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, in his pocket. ��������������� He was subsequently taken to the Mankessim Police Station, together with the jack knife and the dried leaves and charged.
