Global Change Against Poverty (GCAP) in conjunction with Abibimman Foundation has called on President Mahama-led administration to use 2015 as a potential year to tackle poverty, inequality and environmental destruction. According to a Press Release to Peacefmonline.com, the year 2015 marks the end of set targets of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to end poverty; adding it is an opportunity for Ghanaians to demand all forms of equality from the government and ensure all citizens are able to lead good and dignified lives enriched with opportunities. Speaking with the leader of the Abibimman Foundation, Kenneth Nana Amoateng insisted that 2015 is a strategic year to achieve sustainable development for all Ghanaians and the world at large; thus GCAP and Abibimman Foundation is mobilizing together diverse groups and citizens to make sure decision makers feel the pressure of the world�s majority and take decisive action in 2015. �The purpose of this campaign is to inspire actions that give strength to the marginal and collectively address the cause�s deep inequality, injustice, poverty and climate change. We want a world where justice is ensured, where all people are able to realize their rights. We want a world where every citizen is able to democratically and freely participate in decisions that affect their lives�, he stated. �In 2015 we want a world where our government will scale up efforts and increase the momentum in reducing poverty reduction, fight against climate, and inequality. We demand good governance, transparency and accountability by government of Ghana. Governments must also guarantee food sovereignty by investing in small-scale sustainable agriculture, enact and fully implement laws that protect women, children without discrimination,� he urged. The pressure groups however have called on Government of Ghana to chart a new course that the vast majority of Ghanaians want, thus Ghanaians want equity, environmental sustainability, social justice, human rights enjoyment and dignity. To them, there should be a radical demonstration of will power and commitment to fight poverty, inequality and make the MDGs a reality as climate change drives poverty, vulnerability and inequality that disproportionately affect women, children, vulnerable communities and nations that are the least responsible for the crisis. �We stand at the turning point for the future of people and the planet. We must accelerate action and leave no citizens behind. We will raise our voice today for the generations of tomorrow and demand Action,� he stated.
