Sundowns Recall Rashid Sumaila From Kotoko

Sumaila joined his old club late last year following Sundows' decision not to register him for the 2014/15 Absa Premiership season, but he finds himself back in South Africa. Mamelodi Sundowns have recalled defender Rashid Sumaila from Asante Kotoko, the Ghanaian side confirmed on Wednesday. According to Kotoko's general manager Samuel Opoku Nti, the Brazilians wrote to them on Tuesday, informing them of their decision to recall the 22-year-old player from his loan spell. "I'm really disturbed by how things have turned out. Though we knew he would return to Sundowns at some point, we didnt think it was going to be this immediate," Nti told allsports.com.gh. "My day has been messed after receiving the letter on Tuesday," he said. "The clause read that if Sundowns did not request for his services before January 8, he was going to remain with us till the end of the season so there is little we can do. We have to return to the market to find a replacement," he added. "Sundowns did not take a dime from us. It was a free loan deal without any fees. ''They also absorbed his wages. It was a good deal for Kotoko, Sundowns and Rashid himself. Its a pity it didn't last," Nti concluded. With Sumaila back at Chloorkop, it remains to be seen if he will be sold to another club before the Transfer Window closes on January 30, as Sundowns have exhausted their foreign quota for the season.
