NDC Lawyer Appeals To Prez Mahama

A defence lawyer of President John Dramani Mahama during the 2012 presidential election petition, George Tetteh Wayoe, has appealed to him (Mahama) to compensate him for the financial commitments he made during the entire duration of the election petition hearing. According to the member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team at the Supreme Court, he had spent his personal earnings on transportation in the course of defending the president on the various media platforms in the country throughout the eight-month period of the trial. The lawyer, who claimed he joined the team in February 2013, said he spent a total amount of GH62,000 as a result of commuting in taxi cabs to visit media houses daily, particularly TV3, to speak on behalf of the president as far as the petition hearing was concerned. I live at Adenta and I have to be boarding taxi cabs everyday to work because of the president. I was spending between GH100-GH120 everyday for taxi services throughout the petition hearing and now because I represented the president, everybody thinks I have money so going back to my normal trotro is a problem for me as it seems shameful, he said. Lawyer Tetteh Wayoe, who made the appeal to Mr. Mahama through Daily Guide, implored the president to consider giving him a new car or reimburse part of the GH62, 000 he spent for the cause of the president. I used my hard earned money for the president and I continue to do so as I on a daily basis take taxi cabs. I spent GH3,000 monthly and this has rendered me incapable of taking care of my aged mother and young family, according to the young lawyer. I have not come to the media to spoil the presidents name or any other big names within the party, but to appeal to him to help me out, he said, adding that other people who were part of the legal team, including lawyers Nana Ato Dadzie, Chris Ackumey, Alex Segbefie, Tony Lithur and Tsatsu Tsikata, among others, have all been rewarded except me.
