The Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, at a press conference questioned the deafening silence of the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) while the Mahama-led administration increases prices of products with impunity. He said the CJA, made up of some members of the present government and loud-mouthed members of civil society, went on countless demonstrations when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in government, constantly calling on the then administration to reduce fuel prices drastically, even though world market price of fuel at the time was $147 per barrel. �All of a sudden, the CJA members have lost their voices under this government while the government drastically increases fuel prices, even though price of crude oil is almost at all-time low � below $50,� he said. But in response to the Minority leader said, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has asked him to "shut up" if he has nothing better to say. The renowned journalist who is also a member of the CJA said during a panel discussion on Radio Gold that "this attempt to sound holier than everybody is hypocritical. I am wondering where this gentleman is coming from...if he has nothing to say, he should just keep his mouth shut rather turning himself into a mountain of ridicule..." According to him there has not been a new policy on petroleum pricing since 1986. The policy on petroleum pricing according to him is still intact and has been used by then Rawlings, Kufuor, Atta Mills and now the Mahama administration. "We have never changed our position on petroleum pricing. We have always insisted that the levies and taxis can be reduced inorder to alleviate hardship and we have done more than that...I think it is possible to do something about the petroleum pricing", he added.
