Mr. Emmanuel Reagan Fynn, Oforikrom Constituency Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stressed the need for the party to deepen internal democracy for sustainable growth.
He said building vibrant internal structures would help breed healthy competition in the party, to enhance its chances of claiming victory in the 2016 General Elections.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Mr. Fynn kicked against suggestions from some of the partys quarters which had proposed that President John Mahama must not be contested for in the NDCs flagbearership race.
For me, it is necessary for the National Executive Committee (NEC) to encourage all those who are interested to contest for the flagbearership, he said, noting this was critical to avoiding divisions and acrimony borne out of disagreements within the party.
Some party activists had in recent time rooted for the President to go unopposed as this would engender continuity in the NDCs development programmes.
They also argued that President Mahama had already won the goodwill of the electorate, and that this places him in an advantageous position to win the Presidential election.
Mr. Fynn said much as the suggestions carried some weight, we must not lose sight of how some impositions in the past brought its own challenges to the NDC.
The Youth Organizer indicated that to prevent internal wrangling, it was appropriate for the party to do what was right to maintain its momentum in the Ghanaian political landscape.
