Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers �.Retrieve 4 Rifles

Two suspects, Ishmael Amegatsi, popularly referred to as �Apaska�, a 22 year old spiritualist, and Kwame Ofosu Ackah, a 23 year old labourer, are in the grips of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command for conspiracy to commit robbery. Briefing The Chronicle, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Alhaji Mahama Arhin, said on January 7, 2015, the two suspects conspired to rob a 43-year old taxi driver, Seidu Abdallah, at Osei Kwadwokrom in the Western Region. To pursue their agenda, Kwame Ofosu Ackah initially took the telephone number of the driver from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) office, and gave it to his accomplice, Ismael Amegatsi, to hire the taxi from Osei Kwadwokrom to Berekum. The two suspects met with the taxi driver, and agreed on a fare of GH�400 on January 8, 2015, and took off from Osei Kwdwokrom at 5:30 p.m. enroute to Berekum. When they got to Nsapor, near Berekum, on January 9, 2015, at 1:00 a.m., one of the suspects, Amegatsi, held the steering wheel, while the car was in motion. His accomplice, Kwame Ofosu, then stabbed the driver on the left arm, which forced the driver to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident. According to Superintendent Alhaji Mahama Arhin, the driver raised the alarm and people rushed to the scene. The suspects, sensing danger, fled into the nearby bush, but they were pursued and Ishmael Amegatsi arrested. The other suspect, Kwame Ofosu Ackah, was also arrested on January 12, 2015, together with a friend who had accommodated him. The Regional Crime Officer said the two admitted the offence, and would be put before the law court. In a related development, the Regional Police Command has retrieved weapons � including three AK47 rifles and a G3 rifle, all with their magazines fully loaded at the GPRTU station at Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region. According to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, the police had the hint that some criminals were in possession of firearms, with the intention to commit robbery and were moving towards Sampa, and had hidden a bag containing items suspected to be firearms. The Regional Crime Office, said the mounted surveillance in the area for two weeks, but the people failed to surface, compelling them to confiscate the bags. Per the serial numbers of the guns, the police said they were not from the armoury of any of the Ghanaian security agencies, and that the miscreants might have imported them from neighbouring countries. Superintendent Alhaji Mahama Arhin, therefore, advised the public to be on the lookout for any person(s) with strange and dubious actions or characters, and inform the police for their arrest.
