Health Directorate Calls For Radical Actions To Address Increasing Birth Rate

The Head of the Birth and Death Registry at the Tema Metro Health Directorate, Vida Eyram Degbor has called for intensive and radical actions in addressing the increasing birth rate among young girls in the Tema Metropolis. She said in spite of the numerous interventions young girls continue to get pregnant. Mrs. Degbor made the call at the opening of the 2015 Health Annual Review Meeting in Tema. She said the Tema Metropolitan Assembly must institute measures that will prosecute parents who shirk their responsibilities towards their female children explaining that this is a major factor to the increasing early pregnancy among young girls in the metropolis. Mrs. Degbor said last year the department recorded two young people giving birth between the ages of 10 and 14 years as against one in 2013. She entreated all to adhere to the registration of births and deaths of relatives since it helps the Country Planners to adequately prepare for the socio-economic and infrastructure needs of the Country.
