The Managing Editor of The Al-Hajj Newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature has said the public ridicule of the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC], Johnson Asiedu Nketia is �unfortunate� and �unreasonable�.
He explained that, even though the NDC chief scribe has publicly admitted to wearing his wife�s fur winter coat, he must be highly praised for not using state money to purchase a new coat since that could be easily afforded by the state for him.
�I don�t know why people are making fun of him [Asiedu Nketia]. The president [John Mahama] could have afforded his General Secretary a new coat with state money. Asiedu Nketia showed that he has the nation at heart.
"He did not want to spend state money...these same Ghanaians would have bombarded him if he had bought a new coat in Germany just for that visit,� he said in an interview with Peacefmonline.com
Asiedu Nketia has been mocked over the week for wearing a lady�s winter coat during a state visit in Germany with President Mahama and some government officials.
But the General met the mockery with good humour during an interview with Kumasi based HELLO FM.
According to him, �When we embark on a state visit...we are going to use our brains to help the country, not to showcase our attire...�
Adding that; �I didn't see the point in buying a new coat for such a visit�.
