Police Constable Who Accidentally Shot Himself Buried

A POLICE Constable, Issifu Seidu who was part of the police team that arrested ten suspected criminals paraded in Accra last Wednesday has allegedly shot himself dead under some bizarre circumstances.

Constable Seidu, who died at the Police Hospital, was with the Formed Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

Narrating the incident to the DAILY HERITAGE via telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra regional police command, DSP Afia Tenge said, Constable Seidu shot himself during a press conference held to parade some suspected criminals.

Briefing the paper further, DSP Tenge said the late Constable was part of officers who accompanied some suspects to Accra from Madina and that when they got to Accra, all onboard came out of the Pick-up they were using.

She added that, the deceased later said he had left his phone in the vehicle and went for the key from the driver at the time when the vehicle was locked.

“...In the vehicle were a number of weapons that were used in escorting the suspects. When he went in there, the driver had locked the door, so he requested for the key and he went to open the door.

“All that we heard was that, a weapon had fired, so when we rushed there, he was shouting for help, that we should help him, and that he had fired accidentally,” DSP Tenge noted.

He was rushed to the police hospital and later died and he has since been buried in accordance with Muslim tradition.

The Criminal Investigations Department, she said, has taken over the matter and are investigating what led to the incident.
