Ghana`s only twice Chief of Defense Staff, Brigadier General (rtd) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to give him an opportunity to fully exploit his inherent God-giving talent of assisting humanity before he returns to his maker.

Although the outspoken former military strongman is head of the Human Security Department of the National Security Council in the Mahama government, The aL-hAJJ’s investigations suggest that office may exist only on paper as that outfit woefully lacks the needed tools, resources, manpower and legal framework to enable ‘the old-soldier’ carryout his humanitarian duties, a responsibility he says he is passionate about.

Known for his usually boisterous views and pronouncements, sad-looking General Nunoo Mensah fervently appealed to President Mahama to tap into his rich experience in order to fully utilize his God-given potentials and talent. He opined for example that if he gets the full cooperation from the presidency, he can clear the chaotic traffic scene on the Kasoa-Winneba road within ten days.

In an exclusive interview with The aL-hAJJ following a publication in the last week edition of this paper enquiring the whereabouts of the brother of the late President Mills, Dr Cadman Mills, the retired General, though very appreciative of the honor the President has done him so far, said he only wish his office would be well resourced to enable him work to help President Mahama to deliver faster than thought.

Assessing the President from his own point of view, the former security adviser under the late Mills government stated that ever since President Mahama ascended the highest office of the land, he has shown that he meant well for this country, saying “that is why I want to assist him with my expertise to succeed.”

“I have absolute confidence and trust in John that he will succeed…John wants the good of this country but unfortunately he has not had the kind of service I wanted to offer his administration to ensure that he and the NDC continue to stay in power,” General Nunoo Mensah disclosed.

It is against this backdrop, the Winneba born former Military-officer-turned-politician is enthusiastically praying the president to hear his plea “I want the president to give me a chance, I want to help him, I want to help the people, I want him to succeed, I want to help reduce poverty and suffering of the people…I want the President to give me the opportunity to help reduce the deprivation in society,”

He added that his appeal is borne out of his fear that if people like him do not come out to help fight the high level of deficiency and indiscipline in society, the country may go down one day, stressing “Look, I fear for this country, when I see the level of poverty, the deprivation…, no place for people to sleep, market women waking up as early as 4:00 am to go to market without knowing the whereabouts of their children … these are all signs of possible insurrection and I don’t want to see my country going up in flames…, especially, not under John Mahama, that is why I want John to assist my office with resources and personnel to work for him and my motherland Ghana,…I’m not doing this for money.”

On why he won’t personally present his appeal to the President, the retired General, who is noted for expressing his views freely, said he has tried but it has not been easy, “on one occasion I had opportunity to meet the President but I didn’t even start talking when handlers of His excellency the President said my time was up and the door was opened for me to leave and honestly, I felt bad since that day.”

He said he has also tried sending several text messages to the President but he was yet to get a response, stressing “Alhaji, I want you to tell the President that we can together change this country, all we need to do is to get the needed cooperation and support from the presidency.”

General Nunoo Mensah’s appeal comes on the heels of last week publication in The aL-hAJJ enquiring the whereabouts of Dr Cadman Mills, a brother of late president Atta Mills who also was Economic adviser to President John Mahama.

Reports suggest Cadman Mills, who was nominated by President Mahama as Ghana’s ambassador to the United States of America but was said to have been rejected by the US government may have relocated back to the US due to what some have suggested the ‘underutilization’ of his expertise.

According to reports, the soft-spoken junior brother of the late President Mills has left his desk at the presidency unceremoniously and is perhaps cooling off in the US where he resided for many years before his return to the country to support his brother.

Enquiries by this paper on the present status of President Mahama’s Economic Adviser drew blank save, we are told it’s been long since Dr Cadman was spotted in his office.
