Gyan Not Fit

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has made a revelation about his health ahead of today’s clash against South Africa at the Estadio de Mongomo.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference at the Mongomo Stadium yesterday, he noted that he is not 100% fit, but will rely on his mental toughness to lead the Stars in today’s make-or-break clash.

“I won’t say I am 100% fit, but as I always say, I am a mentally strong person and will rely on that to do my best for the nation. You have to take risks in some games,” he told the media.

Responding to how he and his colleagues are plotting to change the statistics between the two countries, which favours the Bafana Bafana, the striker said “…Yes, the statistics favour them, records play key roles in games. We sometimes discuss it among ourselves, but we are armed to the teeth to turn things around when we meet them tomorrow.

“We are here to die for our country. They are a very good side, though we have not seen the South African side that played in the qualifiers yet, but we can’t take them for granted.”

Ghana and South Africa share the same hotel – Hotel de Mongomo – a luxurious three-star hotel where the two teams, until now, were considered friends.

But Gyan hinted that their friendship will turn sour during the 90-minute period saying, “Yea, we have been friends all this while, but we will be enemies on the field until the game is over. But we will display good sportsmanship after the game
