Silent Protest Hits GES Over Aheto-Tsegahs Re-assignment

Some officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES), have expressed worry about the removal of Mr. Charles Aheto-Tsegah as the Acting Director-General of GES.

The officials, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on condition of anonymity, described Mr. Aheto-Tsegah as a “friendly old boy of the house, ” with superlative command over the functions of the GES.

They said the news of his re-assignment to a unit yet to be started within the GES as director, was an indictment on his professional integrity, and added that , “The move is not just unfair, but also unprecedented in the history of the Service.”

The officials said Mr. Aheto-Tsegah had a genuine case to pursue at the law court, if he so wished since to them, “Charles won the post of Deputy Director-General on merit, and so the worst thing anyone could have done to him was to send him back to his original position of Deputy Director-General”.

According to the officials, the announcement of Mr. Aheto-Tsegah’s re-assignment came as a shock, and they would wish that the President could take a second look at the decision, in order to prevent any build-up of tension in the system, considering the huge number of admirers he has.

Mr. Aheto-Tsegah, a former Deputy Director-General of the GES, has been acting as Director-General, since Madam Benedicta Naana Biney retired from the service last year as the Director-General.

President John Mahama, last week, re-assigned Mr. Aheto-Tsegah to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment of the GES as Executive Director, while Mr. Jacob Kor, Central Regional Director of the GES and the Greater-Accra Regional GES Director Mrs. Elizabeth De- Souza moved in as Acting Director-General and Acting Deputy Director-General respectively.
