AFCON 2015: Senegal Coach Quits After Lions Defeat

Alain Giresse has given a big hint that he will not continue as coach of Senegal, after the Teranga Lions were eliminated from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Senegal, who have never won the tournament, needed just a point against Algeria to progress to the quarter-finals, but ended up losing 2-0.

“I am out of contract. My contract has finished,” he told reporters, after he was asked if he will step down.

“The road ends here for Senegal. There will be a lot of changes in and around the team. What happens next I don’t know, but I know what I am going to do.”

Of the performance, he added: “We were not at our best. It was a strange match. Our performance was not up to what we could have expected.”
