Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, has appealed to parents in the northern part of the country to use material and cash donations at funerals and weddings to invest in their children’s education.

He said most parents in the north preferred selling their animals, fowls and other properties to enable them participate in funerals and weddings to the neglect of their children’s education and this must be reversed.

Alhaji Fuseini said this on Sunday during the enskinnment of Alhaji Alhassan Abu as Bomaha-Naa, Chief of Jisonayili, in Tamale.

He said the situation existed for centuries because of “Northern Hospitality,” adding that some even volunteer to part with the last fowl or cow to appease strangers and would not do same to educate their children.

Alhaji Fuseini said education was the heaviest investment that parents could reap enormous benefits from and this must not be compromised.

“I am here today representing you in Parliament because I had education and it is important we pay premium to our children’s education so that they would intend take care of us when we are old,” he said.

Alhaji Fuseini stressed the need for peace and unity among the people to attract more investors to create jobs to arrest the exodus of the youth to other urban centres for nonexistent jobs.

Alhaji Fuseini, who is the MP for Sagnerigu, assured the people of continuous development and said all communities but four had been connected to the national electricity grid and promised to help connect the remaining communities before 2016.

The Bomaha-Naa, Alhaji Alhassan Abu, called for peace and unity of purpose to empower the people to end poverty and unemployment as means of developing the Jisonayili community.

He said his mission was to transform the area by addressing concerns such as low levels in education, women economic empowerment, youth unemployment and inadequate infrastructure.

He said the Bomaha-Naa’s Palace would not condone indiscipline on the part of persons who would want to formant trouble to disrupt the current prevailing peace in the Tamale Metropolis was enjoying and stressed the need for dialogue to address issues.
