Following an erratic power supply that has kept the consumers plunged in darkness, it is easy to think that the entire country is on its knees.

However, you would be terribly wrong. For residents in Roman Ridge, a plush suburb in Accra, power is barely uninterrupted.

Some residents told Joy News, the worst they have experienced was once a few weeks ago.

Roman Ridge is located to the north of Accra and houses top government officials, academicians, big business owners and expatriates.

It borders Airport Residential Area is a familiar synonym for Ghana's elite neighbourhoods.

Massive power fluctuations ripping through the country suddenly grinds to a halt at Roman Ridge, blinks for 5 minutes and continues spreading its inconvenience in towns and communities close by.

“It is because of the big big people around,” a resident gave an unofficial explanation to Joy News' Beatrice Adu.

If big houses describe big people, there is little reason to disagree with the resident’s assertion.

A beautiful sprawl of well-demarcated houses and a quiet neighbourhood is a stark contrast to noisy sections of town where generators choke violently.

However an official response obtained by Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah pointed out that because Roman Ridge is located around important installations such as the Kotoka International Airport, the neighbourhood is exempted from blackouts.
