A diplomat and educationist, Mr K.B. Asante, has urged Ghanaians abroad who desire to return home to not come with mere ideas but also with well-thought-out  plans and programmes that could assist the country to progress.
He said Ghana had the needed natural and human resources to develop and, therefore, had no excuse to be poor.

“We have great men and women who can turn the economy of this country around,” he said.

Mr Asante made the statement in Accra when he paid homage to Professor Lade Wosornu, a renowned Ghanaian Surgeon and poet, at a luncheon  to welcome him back home from a long stay in Saudi Arabia.

He said it was good that Professor Wosornu was back home and had set up a foundation to help resolve issues of poverty among his people.

According to him, a negative attribute of the Ghanaian society was that it did not honour its heroes while they were alive but did so only after their death.

He described Professor Wosornu as an example of a Ghanaian who had sojourned abroad and had come back with determination to make an impact in the lives of people.         

The occasion was also attended by Ambassador Victor Gbexo. He said it was dignifying of Professor Lade Wosornu to come back home and assist his people after 34 years of staying abroad.

He said he was impressed by the professor's humility and interpersonal skills and that the country looked forward to tapping the rich experience he had acquired from his stay in Saudi Arabia.

Other speakers who paid tribute to Professor Wosornu at the function included Dr Kwesi Botchwey, Professor Jerome Djamgmah, Atukwei Okai, Kofi Anyidoho, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Dr Adu Gyemfi and Mr Raymond Okudjeto.

Professor Lade Wosornu is currently a consultant to the University of Allied Health Science (UHAS), Ghana. He served in so many capacities including working as a lead consultant of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Sierra Leone; professor and consultant in surgery in Saudi Arabia, Zambia and Ghana as well as Deanship, Quality and Academic at the University of Dammam in Saudi Arabia.

He has over 90 publications to his credit in refereed journals and has contributed to many conferences, seminars and workshops both home and abroad.
