Nine Die In Accident On Kusa Scarp

Nine members of the Moment of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA) in Kumasi, including a pregnant woman and a child, died when two vehicles on which they were travelling were involved in an accident.

The accident occurred when a Sprinter bus rammed into a Hyundai bus on a section of the road on the Kusa Scarp near Fomena in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region last Saturday morning.

The members were returning to Obuasi and Cape Coast respectively after attending a summit organised by the prayer army at Abrankese near Jachie in the Ashanti Region last Friday night.

The driver of the Hyundai bus was among the dead.

Treatment
Many others who sustained various degrees of injury are receiving treatment at the Bekwai Government Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi and the Bennito Menni Catholic Hospital at Dompoase.

The Fomena Commander of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Richard Anaba Salifu, said the Sprinter and the Hyundai buses were conveying members of the prayer group from the Abrankese Sports Stadium (the MOGPA grounds) near Jachie to Obuasi and Cape Coast respectively.

On reaching the scarp, the Sprinter bus stopped to give way to the Hyundai bus to overtake it.

The Hyundai hit the Sprinter bus, and ran into a broken down articulated truck loaded with cocoa.

Six ambulances responded to a distress call to assist in conveying the injured and the dead to the various hospitals.
