Minister Appeals For Peace In Bunkpurugu

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, has appealed for continued peace in the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo District to ensure the accelerated development of the area.

He made the appeal when he joined the chiefs and people of Bunkpurugu to clean public places including markets, lorry terminals, amongst others as part of the National Sanitation Exercise held over the weekend.

Other places visited by the Minister in the district as part of the sanitation exercise included Yunyoo and Koja where he addressed the chiefs and people and reiterated the need for peace urging various ethnic groups in the district to see themselves as one people and resolve to live peacefully together.

He told the people that a lot of investors were willing to invest in the district but were holding on with their plans because of the frequent conflicts recorded in parts of the district.

Parts of the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo District were noted for conflicts leading to resources being channeled into maintaining peace instead of development projects, he said.

He said development did not thrive in a conflict situation and advised those bent on fomenting trouble to give peace a chance in the area to ensure that government’s efforts at bringing development to the area were realised.

He also spoke about the importance of sanitation and urged the people to see clean environments as a collective responsibility and always clean their surroundings.

Alhaji Fuseini appealed to the chiefs and people of the district to develop interest in the district assembly elections to be held on March 3, by massively participating in the exercise and electing good candidates to champion the interest of their various communities.

He assured the people that efforts were underway to improve on the road infrastructure in the district.

Naa Abuba Nasimong, Chief of Bunkpurugu, lauded the decision by the government to institute the National Sanitation Exercise, saying it would help ensure clean communities to avoid outbreak of diseases.

Naa Nasimong appealed to the President to nominate a Chief Executive for the District to take charge of its administration to bring development to the area.
