A couple is in the grips of the Northern Regional Police Command for allegedly subjecting three teenage girls to torture. They were said to have stripped the girls naked in public, accusing them of stealing an amount of GH3, 500 belonging to one Hajia Fati Karim, at Kaladan area in Tamale.
Two of the three girls who are pupils of Nuriya Islamic School, reportedly accompanied the third victim who is a dressmaker, to buy drinks in preparation for a passing-out ceremony. On reaching the shop, they were unable to purchase the quantity of drinks they had desired as a result of price increases and so decided to go back.
Hajia Fati was however, said to have pleaded with the teenagers to help her clean up the shop and the three girls obliged.
Hundred meters away towards the entrance to the main market, Hajia Fati reportedly raised an alarm that the girls had stolen her money and with the help of his husband, allegedly stripped them naked under the pretext of searching for the stolen money.
They were severely beaten but in the end, no money was found on them as claimed by the woman, resulting in a case of assault being lodged with the police.
During preliminary investigations, the police recovered the amount from the shop of Hajia Fati.
As at press time, the couple was being arraigned before court on various charges while parents of the victims had appealed to the police to pursue the case to its logical conclusion.
Father of the Children, Mohamed Alhassan, disclosed to Daily Guide that her daughters had since been discharged from the hospital and were responding to treatment at home.
