Also in the grips of the police is George Offei, alleged to have received part of the booty — a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 mobile phone.

Briefing the media, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno said on February 2, 2015 at about 11 p.m., the suspects on board a taxi-cab trailed the victim who had closed from work at Airport Residential Area to her residence at Dzorwulu.

He said when the victim got to the entrance of her house, the suspects attacked her with machetes, threw her to the ground and took her car with the said money inside, away.

“The three managed to escape with the victim’s Kia Rio vehicle and her bag containing an international driver’s licence, the 5,600 dollars, the unspecified amount of Korean currency and cedis and her mobile phone,” he said.

DCOP Yohuno said the suspects later abandoned the vehicle at Accra Newtown, adding that a report was made to the police and the patrol team on duty spotted the vehicle and took it to the station.

He said further investigations revealed that Debrah hired a taxi cab and eventually ended up committing the robbery with it.

He said through intelligence network, the receiver of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 mobile phone, Offei who admitted to buying the phone at GH¢1,700, was arrested.

He said Offei led the police to the Aburi hideout of the suspects, and Tetteh, who was hiding in Aburi confessed that he used part of his booty to purchase an Opel Astra taxi.

DCOP Yohuno said the suspects had confessed to the crime and would soon be processed for court.
