Former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has has expressed scorn at President Mahama's claim that Ghana is experiencing erratic power supply because of the widespread use of mobile phones.

The President, addressing the Ghanaian community in Gambia as part of a state visit, noted that the usage of mobile phones has surpassed the population in the country, and maintained that the charging of these phones was taking a huge chunk of the energy supply in the country.

But the former NPP scribe, popularly known as Sir John, says he is disappointed in the President's comments. According to him, the president who has travelled virtually all over the world, should have known better and not attribute the intense load shedding that has hit the country to the usage of mobile phones.

“Is president Mahama really telling Ghanaians to walk and charge their phones everywhere they go? In fact, it is a disgrace and disgusting to hear the president say such things," he said on Adom FM Friday.

The NPP called a massive demonstration on Tuesday February 18, 2015 to drum home their dissatisfaction with general management of the affairs of state, especially the power sector.
