House Boy Jailed For Stealing

An 18-year-old house boy has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing money and other items from his employer.

Patrick Mensah pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before the Amasaman District Court B and was convicted accordingly.

However, Mr Gyarteng Adarkwa Frimpong, Mensah’s employer and the complainant in the case, was very displeased with the judgement.

He wanted either his money refunded or Mensah to serve some more time  in jail instead of the three months given him.

The facts of the case as presented to the court by Sergeant Salifu Nashifu were that on December 2, 2014, Mensah  was cleaning  Frimpong’s bedroom, saw his briefcase and opened it.

Sgt Nashifu  said Mensah  stole four  wrist watches valued at  $2,000, a bracelet valued at $40, a Guaranty Trust Bank Visa Credit card, an International Commercial Bank cheque book and a sum of £50.

Sgt Nashiru said, a day after the theft, Mensah approached Frimpong and told him he was no longer interested in working for him.

Mensah then left for Elmina and used Frimpong’s credit card to withdraw  GH¢2,665 from the Cape Coast and Elmina branches of the Guaranty Trust Bank.

The prosecutor said Frimpong later realised the loss of his valuables and also detected  that someone was  withdrawing money from his account.

During investigation,  Mensah  was identified as the culprit on the bank’s Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV).

On February 4, 2015, Mensah was arrested by the police at  his hideout at Elmina . Two wrist watches, a bracelet and a cheque book were retrieved from him.
